Description
DescriptionThe School of Aviation at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is seeking qualified applicants for anticipated positions within the Aviation Flight program. These are term, non-tenure track appointments. Appointment will be at the Assistant Instructor level with a bachelor's degree and at the Assistant Lecturer with a master's degree. Applications are continually evaluated throughout the year, with the first review beginning February 17, 2025. Application Deadline: 7/31/2025 or until all positions filled.

Examples of Duties
Provide individual flight instruction to students enrolled in Aviation Flight courses, including preflight/postflight inspection and evaluation as well as maintenance of training records of assigned students. Conduct FAA stage and graduation check flights. Function as a "Team Leader", including the supervision and evaluation of Flight Instructors (Team Members). Serve on department committees as requested. Assist faculty as needed in teaching aeronautical and aircraft systems classes offered in the Aviation Flight program. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Flight Instructor and/or the Director of the School of Aviation.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree by date of hire. Commercial Pilot Certificate or higher. FAA Certified Flight Instructor-Airplane Single Engine and Instrument Airplane (CFI and CFI-I). Meet the experience requirements of 14 CFR 141.36 (b). Minimum 50 hours dual given in the last 12 months. Endorsed at least one student for each of the following initial certifications: Private Pilot and Commercial Pilot. Endorsed at least one student for an Instrument Airplane Rating.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree. University flight program experience as a Flight Instructor. Multi-Engine Instructor. Meet the experience requirements of 14 CFR 141.36 (c) or (d). Experience as an evaluator of pilot applicants in a 14 CFR 61 or 141 flight training program. Experience as an evaluator of pilot skill in a 14 CFR 121, 135, or 142 air agency.
